The Courier
A man knocked on a door in Roullingen, near Wiltz, pretending to deliver a parcel. He told the woman who answered that she needed to pay a small sum to release it, and asked for her bank card. While processing the transaction, he swapped her card for a foreign one and left with hers.
Later, the stolen card was used to withdraw cash from an ATM in Wiltz.
Police seized the parcel the scammer had delivered and launched an investigation. They warned the public to exercise caution in the event of an unusual delivery.
The scam is a familiar pattern. Someone arrives at the door, creates urgency, asks for a card, and disappears before the victim realises what happened. The parcel itself was a prop. The small payment was the hook. The card swap was the entire point.
If a courier demands your bank card, the delivery is not the parcel. It is you.
