Three Weeks
Passengers travelling by tram across Kirchberg will have to make adjustments over the coming weeks. Major works began on Wednesday evening at the intersection of Boulevards John F. Kennedy and Konrad Adenauer, with knock-on effects for tram services.[1]
The tram line is interrupted between the Philharmonie and the Red Bridge. Trams run on two separate sections: one from Findel to Philharmonie-Mudam, the other from the far side of the Stadion station to the Red Bridge. For the 450 metres between the two stops, a signposted walk is the recommendation. For those less able to walk, alternatives are available by bus or by rail via a connection at the Red Bridge. Staff will be on site at all times to help.[1]
The interruption is needed so that the first extension can be connected to the existing network. That extension runs along Boulevard Konrad Adenauer and is due to open in the autumn. Tracks have to be laid that link up to the current line, which is why services have to pause. Luxtram crews are working day and night to ensure trams can run normally again from 10 August.[1]
Two days ago, this blog reported the tram disruption under the title "Four Hundred and Fifty Metres." The number was the gap. The gap is now real: 450 metres of walking, a signposted stroll, three weeks of interruption, one extension getting closer to opening. The autumn line is taking shape.[1]
